Brush your shoes!

Shoe Shine BrushAfter you use a dauber to apply shoe polish you need to rub it evenly in to all the cracks and crevices of the shoe. The best way to do this is with a Shine Brush. There are many different types of these brushes, but the best are ones made from horse hair with a wood backing.

Using a shine brush will leave your shoes with a matte finish. You can use a shine cloth to quickly buff the shoes for a nice shine. Taking care of your shoes this way will give your shoes a water resistant (not waterproof) coat that also protects the leather.

Make sure you use a different shine brush for each color of polish you plan to use. This way you won't mix your black with your red. Get a shine brush for your shoes at CedarShoeTree.com. They come in natural and black.

Shoe Shine Box

To take care of your shoes you need shoe polish, polish daubers, shine brushes, shine cloths and shine sponges. Not to mention shoe trees, stretchers, water proofer and odor control. All this stuff does present a problem: Where do you keep it all?

Shoe Shine Box ValetThis problem is nothing new and was solved years ago when everyone took care of their shoes and sometimes paid other people to do the same. Since the era of disposable shoes we have forgotten about the Shoe Shine Box. It's a wooden box for holding all your shoe care items. It also has a handle/foot rest on the top to put your shoe on when you're working on it.

So if you have all that cool stuff to take care of your shoes make sure you buy a shoe shine box at CedarShoeTree.com. They're the best place to refill that box as well.

Stretch Your Shoes

Foot Arches and their HeightDid you know that your feet get longer as you get older? Your foot is shaped like an arch and over time that arch slowly collapses making your feet longer. Not by much, but it doesn't take much for your shoes not to fit anymore.

When dealing with US shoe sizes there is a 1/6 of an inch between each half size. So a size 6 is only 1/6 of an inch longer than a 5½. Many people do not realize this and will try to purchase a size 6 when they're 40 because they wore a size 6 when they were 20.

How to fix this? You have a few options:

  • Get your feet re-measured every 5 years or so.
  • Get insoles with arch support. These will lift your arches back up.
  • Stretch your shoes.

Two Way Shoe StretcherWhat about your old shoes? You can stretch your shoes to make them larger. A shoe stretcher can make your shoes half to a full size larger. Any larger than that and you risk damaging the shoes.

To stretch your shoes you need two products Shoe Stretch and a Shoe Stretcher. The Shoe Stretch will soften the material to help it stretch and hold its shape once stretched and the Shoe Stretcher will, well, stretch the shoes.

Shoe Polish Dauber

The most under appreciated piece of shining equipment is the polish dauber. When was the last time you talked about shining your shoes? Did you mention a dauber? I thought you didn't, but when you want to get the polish from the jar to the shoe what else would you use.

Wood Polish DauberI know it seems a bit mundane, but the polish dauber helps you avoid getting globs of polish on your hands and other shine implements. Most daubers are either brushes or foam pads with a handle. The professional daubers usually have a small round horse hair brush with a wood handle to make it easy to dip into the jar and then brush all over your shoes. The brush also helps get into cracks, crevices and other odd shapes in your shoes.

Wood and hair aren't known to be cheap, but you're in luck. CedarShoeTree.com buys them in such bulk that they are only $1.50 each. Buy wood daubers at the best place for shoe care, Cedar Shoe Tree.

Shoe Store Supply

I've had a few businesses contact me about shoe store supplies. There are many back room items that shoe stores need, but there aren't many places they can buy them any more. Common items include:

  • Shoe Store Collage - Try-On Socks, Brannock Device, Halter, Tongue Pad, Heel Grip, Shoe Stretch and Professional Shoe HornTry-On Socks
  • Knee-Hi  FootSox
  • Shoe Stretchers
  • Shoe Stretch (liquid or spray)
  • Halters
  • Foam Insoles
  • Heel Grips
  • Foam Taps
  • Cork Taps
  • Tongue Pads
  • No-Slip Pads
  • Instant Shine Spray
  • Shoe Polish
  • Shoe Cream
  • Professional Shoe Horns
  • Brannock Devices

These are all items common to shoe boutiques. Try-on socks are necessary for health code reasons (people come in the store without socks on and want to try on shoes). Bulk Halters, Tongue Pads, Heel Grips, Foam Insoles, Shoe Stretch, Stretcers, Foam and Cork Taps are used to help adjust shoes to fit the individual. Shoe Horns and Brannock measuring devices are for measuring and trying on shoes. Shoe polish, shoe cream and instant shine spray help spruce up shoes that were scuffed in shipping.

All of these products are used by shoe stores and boutiques everyday and there are not many suppliers out there for this type of stuff. The best wholesaler by far is Burten Distribution. They've been supplying shoe stores for over 25 years and are the largest shoe store supply company in the United States. Call them and get your shoe store supplies today.
